The Woods. From distant lands and native forests.
Amaranth, Bubinga or Fernambuka – even their names sound exotic and full of mystery.
But the native woods that Stefan Fink uses have a magic of their own – almost fairy-tale in character. Laburnum, smoke bush and bog oak are among the home-grown species that share the qualities required to become a Fink writing instrument – dense, hard, fine-grained, and above all, perfectly seasoned.
Before being worked, Fink’s woods rest for up to seven years in his workshop, turned regularly like a fine wine. Some pieces are already centuries old when he selects them.
One bog oak, for instance, had lain preserved for 3,500 years in the River Elbe before being recovered deep black and utterly unique. Perhaps that is why Stefan Fink’s writing instruments resonate so strongly with us:
every piece of wood carries a story waiting to be told.
